Our Mission

The Working Waterfront Coalition advocates for sound public policy that promotes environmental, social, and economic sustainability in supporting harbor and industrial businesses that are key to the economic vitality of Portland and employ a diverse group of people as well as providing an equitable family wage.

Who We Are

A coalition of industrial businesses concerned about the economic vitality and the environmental health of the Portland Harbor, WWC was established in 2005 to create a focused and strong voice for harbor industrial public policies and issues.

What We Do

  • Promoting the value of industrial businesses, including family wage employment, environmental protection, economic contributions and community investments.
  • Advocating for your interests with a presence in front of policy decision makers, elected officials, opinion leaders and influencers on the value of the harbor economic importance.
  • Informing member companies of rules, regulations and laws.
  • Convening space for harbor and industrial businesses.
  • Workforce development for industrial businesses.
  • Collaborating with partner associations and governmental committees-ongoing coordination for industrial interest and issues.

Our Priorities

  • Economic Opportunities Analysis
  • Industrial Land Use Policy
  • BES Water/Storm Water Fees Proposal Management and Policies Engagement
  • Policy Leader Education and Engagement
  • Workforce Development

Geographical Area of Focus

Industrial land along the Willamette River south to the Steel Bridge, north to the Columbia River.

Working Waterfront Coalition members are conscientious stewards of
the environment.

They make significant investments in the harbor, consistent with state and federal laws and regulations, to reduce the impacts of human activity in the harbor. After completing many diligent studies and commissioning numerous reports, the WWC has concluded that increased job development and environmental enhancement efforts in the harbor will be impeded by unnecessarily burdensome and duplicative regulation and government-imposed costs.

Working Waterfront Coalition announces Scholarship Endowment with Portland Community College Foundation

WWC is proud to announce that it has set up an endowment with Portland Community College Foundation. Founded in 2005, WWC is committed to a long-term legacy as both a coalition and providing training for working wage Jobs.

The scholarship fund at the PCC Foundation spans more than a decade. WWC’s investment has had a profound impact on the lives of PCC students studying the trades. This investment in education fuels the local and regional economy as scholarship recipients go on to secure working wage jobs and make untold contributions to their communities. In creating the endowment, WWC is ensuring support for student scholarships which are not only available today, but that it grows and continues in perpetuity, providing a much-needed, trained workforce to the industrial sector.

Please support the training of much needed industrial employees by donating now.
